WILLIAM MORRIS AND EDWARD BURNE-JONES

WILLIAM MORRIS AND EDWARD BURNE-JONES

Handpainted 'stained glass' reproductions (on a small scale) of details of some of William Morris' most important works. Beautiful window decorations for the home. The William Morris stained glass partnership with Edward Burne-Jones produced works of a very high order, and a very distinctive pre-Raphaelite style - rich in colour - harking back to the medieval glass common in English cathedrals and churches before much of its destruction in the 16th and 17th centuries. We will be adding to our William Morris collection this year.

Ship of Souls - Roundel Ship of Souls - Roundel
The 'Ship of Fools' was designed by Edward Burne-Jones for Powells of Whitefriars in 1858. Burne-Jones famously worked with the William Morris Studio later on but this piece pre-dated the founding of William Morris' company. Whitefriars were fine stained glass makers, and, if you get the chance to see this piece in situ in Christ Church, you will be captivated by its beauty.

St. Martin Panel St. Martin Panel
Our hand painted glass reproduction of St. Martin cutting his cloak to give to the beggar is taken from the wonderful window of our local church, St. Martin's, Brampton. St. Martin's was designed and built by the pre-Raphaelite, Philip Webb, under the auspices of George Howard, the Earl of Carlisle in the late 1800s. George Howard himself was a pre-Raphaelite artist and was visited at his home at Naworth Castle by many of the pre-Raphaelite artists. St. Martin's was not only built by an outstanding architect, but most of the stained glass was designed by Edward Burne-Jones and executed by the William Morris studio, including the St. Martin we show here. If you are ever in our area, please do visit this beautiful church (and us too. We're just around the corner from it !)

Our 12.5" long x 5" wide panel is gift boxed and is priced at just £25.00. The beautiful pre-Raphaelite stained glass windows at St. Martin's, Brampton are in urgent need of repair. We are donating 10% of the price of this product to help the church.
