The Pre-Raphaelites: William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones

The William Morris stained glass partnership with Edward Burne-Jones produced works of a very high order, and a very distinctive Pre-Raphaelite style - rich in colour - harking back to the medieval glass common in English cathedrals and churches before much of its destruction in the 16th and 17th centuries. Winged Heart Stained Glass are now pleased to present below a selection of our redrawn and handpainted 'stained glass' reproductions of details of some of William Morris' most important works, available gift boxed.

William Morris - Praying Angel Panel
This detail is from a window by William Morris in Cattistock, Dorset, which dates from 1882. The praying angel was adapted from an earlier drawing which Morris did for the ceiling of the church in Jesus College Cambridge and she appears with 5 other figures in a window which has been described as 'particularly beautiful with strong, pure, colours'. This lovely panel is reproduced in our 'Church Window' shape. A very special gift.

William Morris - Praying Angel Roundel
The 'Praying Angel' is a supremely successful inspirational work by William Morris, leader of the Arts and Crafts movement of the mid-1800s. It is one of a series of six panels, set against celestial skies. A great feeling of peace and devotion is given off by this wonderful composition. The original 'church window' is at Cattistock Church, in Dorset.

Edward Burne-Jones - Ship of Souls, Christ Church, Oxford
The 'Ship of Souls' was designed by Edward Burne-Jones for Powells of Whitefriars in 1858. Burne-Jones famously worked with the William Morris Studio later on but this piece pre-dated the founding of William Morris' company. Whitefriars were fine stained glass makers, and, if you get the chance to see this piece in situ in Christ Church, you will be captivated by its beauty.
